Checklist
- Quarantine tank
- Air stone
- Simple filter
- Aquarium salt
- Blue Planet Fungus Cure
- Air tubes x 2
- Small bucket
Prepare your quarantine tank
Set up a simple quarantine tank at home. In the video example, we are using a 100L quarantine tank with an airstone and simple filter.
Add your Goldfish to your quarantine tank.
Day 1: Add aquarium salt
Once you have transferred your new fish into your quarantine tank, add aquarium salt to the tank.
The dosage is 1g to 1L of quarantine tank water.
In the example, we use 100g of aquarium salt for a 100L quarantine tank.
Day 2: Water acclimation
In the morning of Day 2, remove 2L of water from your quarantine tank.
Then take 2L of water from your main aquarium and add it to the quarantine tank.
Wait 6 hours and repeat the process in the afternoon.
This water acclimation will allow your new Goldfish to get used to the bacteria that exists in your main aquarium.
Day 3: Water acclimation
In the morning of Day 3, remove 4L of water from your quarantine tank.
Then take 4L of water from your main aquarium and add it to the quarantine tank.
Repeat the process in the afternoon and again in the evening.
If your fish looks ill, perform a large water change (approximately 70-80%) and then add 3g of aquarium salt per 1L of quarantine tank water.
Day 4: Fungus Cure
On Day 4, add Blue Planet Fungus Cure to your quarantine tank.
Let it sit in the tank for 24 hours. The water will turn yellow, which is expected.
Day 5: Water drip system
On Day 5, create a simple dripping system using two air tubes.
Place the first air tube so that one end is in your main aquarium and the other is in your quarantine tank. Set it up so that water from your main aquarium is slowly feeding into your quarantine tank.
Place the second air tube so that one end is in your quarantine tank and the other is in a bucket. Set it up so that water from your quarantine tank is slowly feeding into the bucket.
Keep this system running until the water in your quarantine tank becomes clear. This usually takes two to three hours.
Transfer your Goldfish into your main aquarium
Before transferring your new Goldfish into your main tank, give them a quick salt bath.
Place 10L of tank water into a bucket and mix in 50g of salt. Stir so the salt dissolves evenly.
Pick your Goldfish from the quarantine tank and dip the fish into the bucket. Give it a quick rub in the salt water.
You can now transfer your Goldfish into your main aquarium.
